Mental Health

Mental health is a critical issue that affects adolescents and youth worldwide. The pressures of school, social relationships, and extracurricular activities can be overwhelming and can take a toll on young people’s mental health. At AYOHREC (Adolescents and Youth Health Research Center), we are dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and supporting young people’s mental well-being. Through our research and programs, we strive to provide a supportive community, promote healthy coping mechanisms, raise awareness, build life skills, and provide resources for young people who may be struggling with their mental health.

In addition to our research and programs, AYOHREC also runs mental health clubs in schools to help promote mental health awareness and provide support to students. Our school clubs provide a safe space for students to share their experiences, learn healthy coping mechanisms, and build life skills. Through our mental health clubs, we aim to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and empower young people to take control of their mental health. Join us in our efforts to create a supportive community and promote mental health in schools and beyond.

What students say Mental Health Clubs should do

Namugenze Antonia

Mental health club should give children confidence and increase their self esteem. It should enable kids to be comfortable to interact with one another and express their emotions freely

They should feel loved, wanted and valued. They should learn that not all their expectations will be fulfilled in life and people can’t be trusted. Its not a good thing to put all your trust in people because they will break your heart and let you down even your own parents.

I therefore recommended the following in a mental health club in schools.

  • Give complements to each other.
  • Play fun, positive games.
  • Welcome each other with smiles.
  • Say what they are grateful for in life.
  • Talk about what hurt them the most in life, the places, the people and the things that broke their hearts and the lessons they learnt.
